Klaus Clement VA3 Viola 16"
This viola was made in the workshop of master luthier Klaus Clement. Clement began learning the art of violin-making in the workshop of Karl Hoefner/Paesold in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2010 Clement opened his own workshop in Leipzig, Germany. He is an active member in many organisations including the association of German Violin & Bow Makers. This instrument comes with a certificate, declaration of materials and photos from the maker.
The VA3 has a two-piece maple back while the top is made from spruce. This viola has been lightly shaded with a good cover of golden to orange-brown varnish & has ebony fittings. Klaus Clement is particularly well-known for his varnishing. The formula he uses is constantly changing & improving as he investigates the effect of the varnish on the sound of his instruments.
Overall this viola has a clear & crisp sound that beautifully articulates each note. It is bright & focused with a well-balanced tone & a fast response time. This instrument is ideal for the intermediate to advanced musician. This instrument is currently fitted with Larsen Virtuoso strings to enhance the natural brightness of this violas sound.
