Johann Stauffer #500S Cello 3/4
This lovely cello has been hand-made in China using two-pieces of maple for the back, which have been moderately flamed with a narrow curl, and matching ribs and scroll. The top is of a finely grained spruce and the instrument has been finished with an amber-brown varnish. The cello is fitted with ebony pegs, and a Wittner tailpiece. The body measures 692mm along the back, 312mm across the upper bouts and 403mm across the lower bouts.
This instrument has a particularly focussed quality to its sound and has no trouble projecting its refined tone across the highs and lows of the instrument's registers. The complexity and richness give this cello a beautiful expressiveness and it responds very well to the changes in dynamics. This cello would be most suited for players at an intermediate level.
