This viola was made by Hagen Weise in Baiersdorf, in 2023. Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers. The instrument also comes with a certificate of authenticity from Weise.

The viola is labelled "Hagen Weise / Baiersdorf 2023 4523240-1". The body measures 395mm along the back, 189mm across the upper bouts and 230mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of well flamed maple, with matching ribs and scroll, and the top is of spruce with an uneven grain. It is finished with an amber-gold varnish and ebony fittings.

It has a clear, bright sound, full of energy and life, making for a comfortably soloistic viola. It doesn't struggle with projection at all, and as such would be a great instrument to hold its ground in quartet or orchestral playing, blending well with other instruments. The top and bottom registers are evenly matched, and for a larger instrument it is remarkably comfortable in the hands. It would be a great fit for a violist doing their tertiary study or playing professionally in freelance or orchestral situations.
