David E Glanville Violin Sydney 2019

This violin was made in 2019 by our head luthier & director at The Sydney String Centre, David Glanville. David was born in England & moved to Australia with his family in 1968. He worked in repairs & restoration at ‘The Fiddle Factory,’ in Northbridge, Sydney before starting his own business ‘The Sydney String Centre’ in 1991 with his wife Carmel. ‘Glanville & Co.’ is the newest business venture for the owners of The Sydney String Centre, collectively with their three children based in Chatswood, Sydney. ‘Glanville & Co.’ is making instruments locally at The Sydney String Centre. This violin comes with a certificate of authenticity & photos from the maker.

This violin is labelled ‘David. E. Glanville, 2019, Made in Sydney, Australia, 191008,’ signed ‘David Glanville,’ and based on a Guarneri del Gesu model. The body measures 355mm along the back, 165mm across the upper bouts & 207mm across the lower bouts. This violin has an exquisite one-piece back made from an aged & beautifully well-flamed piece of maple. The top is made of spruce with a straight grain. This violin has light antiquing with light to dark brown varnish & rosewood fittings. This instrument is brand new & is in excellent condition.

This violin has an extremely rich & complex sound with outstanding projection. The sweetness & warmth of the lower register is perfectly balanced with a superb clarity & focus in the upper register. This instrument would be suitable for the advancing to professional level soloist, chamber musician or tertiary level study. This violin is currently fitted with ‘Larsen Il Cannone Solo’ strings which enhance the overall volume, projection & resonance of the instruments natural sound.
