This violin was made by Sibylle Fehr-Borchardt in Cremona in 2009. Fehr-Borchardt was born in Kempten, Germany in 1965, and began her career studying in the workshop of Francesco Bissolotti in Cremona. With Bissolotti having learnt from Gaetano Sgarabotto, Fehr-Borchardt was placed firmly in the tradition of 20th-Century Cremonese violin making, one which she carries forward to this day. Since she graduated in 1989, she has worked with Gaspar Borchardt in their joint workshop in Cremona.

It is labelled "Sibylle Fehr-Borchardt / sub signum Cremonae / fecit in Piazza Duomo 2009". The body measures 353mm along the back, 168mm across the upper bouts and 206mm across the lower bouts. It has a one-piece back of well flamed maple of a tight curl, with matching ribs and scroll, and the front is of a tightly grained spruce. It is finished with a amber varnish and rosewood fittings, and is in good condition.

This violin has a rich, warm sound which feels alive with character and energy from moment the bow touches the string. It excels at both the smallest and largest ends of the tonal spectrum, enjoying crisp and clean projection while maintaining its warm colour. With respect to register, the upper end is very resonant and cantabile, and the lower end carries all the intensity and broadness common in fine Cremonese instruments. With a very comfortable feeling of playability, it is well suited to all kinds of repertoire, from chamber to virtuosic, and as such would suit players of a professional level in all formats of playing.
