This violin was made by Mina Mazzolari in 2020 in Cremona. Known professionally as Mina Mazzolari, Minjeong Kang is originally from South Korea. She moved to Italy at the age of 18, enrolling in the International School of Violin Making in Cremona in 1998. In 2003, she started a collaboration with Maestro Edgar E. Russ, which was the beginning of a long artistic and professional partnership that still lasts today. In 2009, she received 4th place overall in the viola category at the XII Triennial International Competition of Stringed Instruments organised by A. Stradivari Foundation of Cremona and obtained an honourable mention from the panel. This violin is labelled 'Mina Mazzolari / Fece in Cremona nell' anno 2020' and is based on a Guarneri del "Gesu" model. The body measures 353mm along the back, 165mm across the upper bouts and 204mm across the lower bouts. The back is of one piece medium flamed maple with a narrow curl. The ribs and scroll match the back. The top is straight grained spruce of uneven growth. The violin has been finished with golden brown varnish and ebony fittings. This violin has a bright sound and is most suited for performance at a tertiary level or higher. It has a slightly harder edge than most other instruments in this range, which translates to a rigorous and energetic tone, with lots of strength and projection.
