G.A Pfretzschner Workshop Viola 15.75" Markneukirchen 20th Century

This viola by the Pfretzschner workshop, was made in Markneukirchen, Germany, at the turn of the 20th century. This instrument is labelled "Reproduction of: Antonius Stradivarius 1731 / Made by G. A. Pfretzschner". The body measures 400mm along the back, 188mm across the upper bouts and 229mm across the lower bouts. The back is of one-piece, medium flamed maple with a narrow curl, with matching ribs and scroll. The top is made of fine-grained spruce. This viola is finished with golden brown varnish and ebony fittings. It is in very good condition. This instrument has a bright, well-projecting sound and is most suited for solo, chamber or orchestral playing. It is currently fitted with Larsen Virtuoso strings.
