The Sydney String Centre uses Adyen for online credit card transactions.

Adyen is a safe and secure means of collecting payments via the Internet.

Payments are fully automated with an immediate response. Your complete credit card number cannot be viewed by The Sydney String Centre or any outside party.

All transactions are performed under 128 Bit SSL Certificate.

Adyen at no time holds your funds; all monies are directly transferred from your account to the merchant account held by The Sydney String Centre.

Instrument Servicing

Stringed instruments are at their best when serviced regularly. Changes in temperature and humidity and general wear can affect the delicate balance and overall performance of the instruments. We recommend that your instrument be serviced every six months. When an instrument is purchased from The Sydney String Centre, regular servicing is free for the time that you are the owner of the instrument (pending our instrument servicing terms and conditions below) as we like to know that your instrument is performing at its best at all times.

We are happy to service instruments that have not been purchased from us, with service costs starting from $80. (Please note, servicing does not include parts, e.g. strings etc.)

Instrument Servicing Terms and Conditions:

The Sydney String Centre offers FREE servicing for instruments bought at our store pending the following conditions:

+ The instrument was originally purchased from The Sydney String Centre and you are the original owner of the instrument.

+ The Instrument must be presented in store for servicing within 12 months of it’s last service (we recommend coming in every 6 months).

+ If the instrument is not presented in store for the first initial adjustment (first service) within 2-4 weeks of buying the instrument then warranty on some parts may be void.

Beginner Rentals

The following rental terms and conditions are found on our violin, viola, cello and double bass rental forms. The hirer must agree to these terms and conditions before leaving the store with any one of our instruments. For a more detailed explanation of our rental terms and conditions, please watch the video below.

1) By clicking the button or signing at the bottom of the rental contract, I am agreeing to all the terms and conditions set out below.

2) The instrument remains at all times the property of The Sydney String Centre.

3) Any necessary repairs to the instrument can only be made by The Sydney String Centre.

4) On the day any outstanding payment is due the nominated credit card will be charged the full amount owing for the next rental period. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT PRORATE FOR EARLY RETURNS.

5) Should the transaction be declined for any reason, a dishonouring fee of $5 will be charged in addition to any outstanding amount. If the transaction is still declined after seven (7) days, a further $5 will be charged then, and every seven (7) days thereafter until payment is received in full.

6) The hirer's credit card details will be stored securely by ‘Odoo’ in accordance with privacy laws and will be used for the sole purpose of charging any amount as it falls due.

7) The instrument, bow and case are insured for physical loss and physical damage subject to the following exclusions. Insurance does not cover:

a) Any loss or damage caused by or resulting from:

i) natural ageing, gradual deterioration, inherent defect, rust oxidisation, moth or vermin,

ii) any repairing, restoring, retouching or similar process,

Trade-Ins & Consignment Sales

At The Sydney String Centre, we offer consignment sales and trade-ins for selected instruments to make purchasing a new instrument or rehoming your current instrument just that little bit easier. Please read the guidelines below to see if your instrument qualifies for either trade-in or consignment.

Selected instruments/bows purchased from The Sydney String Centre (SSC) may be considered as part-payment towards the purchase of a new instrument/bow of greater value under the following conditions:

For violins and violas:

+ The instrument was originally purchased from SSC by the same customer looking to make the new purchase (instruments purchased from a third party do not qualify).

+ The general condition of the instrument must meet our high standards.

+ The instrument is classified as intermediate, advanced, or professional as indicated on our website or in store. Instruments in our beginner range and electric instruments do not qualify.

For cellos and basses:

+ The instrument was originally purchased from SSC by the same customer looking to make the new purchase (instruments purchased from a third party do not qualify).

+ The general condition of the instrument must meet our high standards. Electric cellos and electric double basses do not qualify.

We do not guarantee a fixed price or percentage as a return on your instrument until we have examined it at the time of trading in. When calculating the trade-in price we take into account the current perceived market value, the general condition of the item as well as the cost of any repairs or refurbishment. We will generally only accept one trade-in item per transaction and the maximum value of the trade-in must not be greater than 50% of the new item being purchased.
