The Knoll workshop where this bow was crafted, was established in 1932 with Alfred Knoll (1909-1980). Alfred’s son Harmut was born in 1937 and he successfully completed his master’s craftsman exam in 1965. In 1968 Harmut had a son Gerald & in 1977 Harmut took over the Knoll workshop. Gerald took his master’s craftsman exam in 1998 & in 2003 he took over the workshop. The Knoll workshop produce a large range of bows from an advanced student standard to that of a professional soloist.

This violin bow is stamped HARMUT KNOLL* & weighs 60.9 grams. The stick has been rounded & is made from carefully selected pernambucco of the best growth & highest elasticity. It measures 745mm in length & has silver lapping. The frog is made from ebony & is fully silver mounted with a silver Parisian eye. This bow has a three-part button with two parts ebony & one-part silver.

This violin bow has a strong stick & a clear, articulate & focused sound. It has a superb level of control throughout the length of the bow to facilitate more complex strokes such as spicatto & ricochet. It has a fast response time & strong bounce. It is beautifully balanced & a real pleasure to play. This bow would be suitable for tertiary level study and the advanced to professional level musician.
