This violin was made in the workshop of master luthier Hagen Weise. Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop located in Baiersdorf, Germany. This instrument comes with a certificate & photos from the maker.

The Hagen 140 has a two piece, well-flamed maple back while the top is made from spruce. This instrument is based on a Guarneri violin model. The violin has been antiqued with a good cover of golden to dark brown varnish & has ebony fittings.

Overall this violin has a warm sound & great projection. This instrument has outstanding resonance & a well-balanced sound. The overall tone is rich & resonant which gives this instrument an easy playability. This violin would be suitable for tertiary level study, advanced to professional soloists or chamber musicians. This violin is currently fitted with Larsen ‘Il Cannone’ strings which add a touch of brightness to the overall warmth of this instrument.

WHAT MAKES THE HAGEN 140 DIFFERENT TO THE HAGEN 130?

  • Superior quality of timber (seen in the higher flame on the back, sides, neck & scroll)
  • A brighter sound with greater projection due to the higher grade of timber, varnishing & workmanship
