This violin was made by Hagen Weise in 2023, in Baiersdorf. Hagen Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers. This violin comes with photos and a certificate of authenticity from the maker.

The violin is labelled "Hagen Weise / Baiersdorf, September 2023 Plowden" and is based on a Guarneri model. The body measures 352mm along the back, 165mm across the upper bouts and 205mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of well flamed maple, with matching ribs and scroll and a top of unevenly grained spruce. The violin is finished with a golden varnish and ebony fittings.

It has a sweet, rich sound, with lots of resonance and layers adding complexity to its tone. Overall, this gives it a warmer colour, perfect for chamber music and orchestral playing -- when pushed a bit and played strongly, however, this violin projects easily and carries well, all the while maintaining its complexity and interest. With its warm, mature character, it would be the perfect violin for someone engaged in their tertiary study or playing professionally in chamber or orchestral situations.
