Josef P. Gabriel Violin Bow
This violin bow was made by Josef P. Gabriel in Erlangen, Germany. In 1982 he began his apprenticeship as a bow maker under Alfons Riedel in Bubenreuth, where he stayed to work after completion of his apprenticeship. In 1987 Gabriel completed his master craftsman’s examination & opened his own workshop. Gabriel has won numerous awards for his bows including a Gold Medal at the International Competition & Exhibition of the Violin Society of America (VSA) & a Silver & Bronze Medal in the International Violin Making Competition in Mittenwald, Germany. This violin bow comes with a certificate of authenticity & photos from the maker.
This violin bow is labelled ‘JOSEF P. GABRIEL,’ & is made from excellent quality pernambucco. The stick has been rounded & has silver lapping. It has a goat leather grip & bone tip lining. The frog is made from ebony & is silver mounted with a mother of pearl eye & slide. This bow has a three-part button, two parts silver & one-part ebony
This bow has a strong stick & a beautifully resonant sound. It has a fast response time, excellent control & a good level of bounce that facilitates more complex strokes such as spiccato & sautille. It would be suitable for tertiary level study and the advanced to professional level musician.
