A. Czech Silver Mounted Viola Bow Australia
This viola bow is stamped "A. Czech" and was made in Australia in the 20th Century. It has a round stick of pernambuco weighing 72.6 grams, with silver wire lapping and a leather grip. The frog is of ebony, fully mounted in silver with a Parisian eye, and a three part button of silver and ebony. It is in good condition.
The bow is well balanced, being a little biased towards the frog in a way that manages the weight of the stick very well, and it plays well in all parts of the bow. The lower half is quite stout, while the middle and tip progress to a lighter and more flexible feeling that befits earlier Galant repertoire. In sound, it lends a warm and full character to the tone of the viola, and on the whole would be the perfect bow for someone playing at a tertiary level.
