This cello was made in the workshop of Mario Gadda in 1976 in Mantova, Italy.

This cello is labelled ‘Mario Gadda di Mantova – fece in Mantova anno 1976,’ with the makers signature and a stamp directly above the label. The body measures 757mm along the back, 348mm across the upper bouts and 442mm across the lower bouts. The cello features a stunning two piece back with this and the sides being made from highly flamed maple. The top is made from spruce with a straight grain and has a lovely orange-brown varnish.

This cello has a brilliant, classically Italian sound with gorgeous overtones while offering superior projection. The upper and lower registers are beautifully balanced and its richness and resonance make it a joy to play. This instrument would be suitable for the advancing to professional soloist or chamber musician. This cello is currently fitted with Larsen Il Cannone direct and focused strings which highlight the brilliance of this cello.
