Martin Devillers was born in 1956 in Paris, and was one of the first students to study in the new bow-making school in Mirecourt with Bernard Ouchard, who was partly responsible for the modern flourishing of French bow-making in the latter half of the 20th Century. After studying, he worked for a time in Paul Schuback in Portland, Oregon, who himself had studied with René Morizot, and subsequently Devillers has returned to France, settling in Engins, just outside of Grenoble. He was awarded two gold medals for a violin and viola bow at the Prix de la Ville de Paris in 1991, leading to him being awarded the Prix du Meilleur Francais.

This bow is stamped "M. Devillers a Paris" and weighs 61.5g. It has a round stick of pernambuco, measuring 741mm in length with an imitation whalebone lapping, and a leather grip. The frog is made from ebony and is silver mounted with a Parisian eye, with a three-piece button of silver and ebony. It is in excellent condition.

This bow has strong yet flexible stick. It produces a clear, rounded sound, with immediacy from the moment the bow hair touches the string.
