Violin - Giovanni Varazzani 2024 Cremona Italy

This violin was made by Giovanni Varazzani in 2024 in Cremona. Giovanni is the brother of master luthier Andrea Varazzani, and had an independent career in the UK before coming back to Cremona to work as a full-time apprentice in Andrea's workshop. His instruments are made under the careful supervision and examination of his brother, and stay true to the traditional Cremonese style, with careful attention paid to the varnishing. This instrument comes with a certificate of authenticity and photos from the maker.

This violin is labelled 'GIOVANNI VARAZZANI / Fece sotto la guida del / Maestro Andrea Varazzani / Sesto Cremonese - Cremona / Anno 2024' and is based on the Guarneri del Gesu "Kreisler" model. The body measures 365mm along the back, 168mm across the upper bouts and 207mm across the lower bouts. The back has been made with two pieces of Balkan maple which has been moderately flamed with a narrow curl. The ribs and scroll have been selected to match. The top is of a moderately grained spruce and has been finished with a gold-brown varnish.

This violin is full of rich and dark colours, giving it the classic Cremonese sound. Players are able to easily draw the warmth and smoothness out of this instrument across both the high and low registers, and achieve an even tone no matter the dynamic. This instrument would be most suitable for a violinist working in professional orchestras or studying at a tertiary level.
