This cello was made by Pasquale Sardone in 2024, in Cremona. Pasquale Sardone was born in Altamura, Italy in 1979. In 2001, he moved to Cremona to attend the International School of Violin Making, and learned to make stringed instruments under the guidance of Maestro Giorgio Scolari. He subsequently began an apprenticeship in the workshop of Maestro Giorgio Grisales. In 2013, he opened his own workshop in Cremona where he makes, repairs and restores instruments. He continues to study classical and contemporary violin making, paying close attention to varnishes and shapes to achieve the right balance between aesthetics and sound.

It is labelled 'Sardone Pasquale / Cremona 2024'. The body measures 747mm along the back, 359mm across the upper bouts and 443mm across the lower bouts. It has a one-piece back of slab-cut poplar, with well-matched ribs and scroll, and the top is a broadly grained spruce. The cello is finished with an amber-brown varnish and ebony fittings.

The cello is very resonant, with an intensely rich core to it. The lower register has a broad character, which gets a crisper as you get higher towards the A string, and on the whole the cello is unified with an openness and clarity which projects as well at the bottom of the instrument as it does at the top. Being as sonorous as it is, it would make a perfect soloistic cello for a professional player, and would stand up just as well in orchestral and chamber settings.
