Roger Francois Lotte was a French bowmaker working in Mirecourt during the mid to late 20th Century. He first apprenticed with his father, Francois Lotte -- who himself had worked with Charles Nicolas Bazin and Eugène Cuniot-Hury -- and eventually took over his workshop. His style closely resembles that of his father's, and he was well known for supplying a number of different firms in Paris and Mirecourt with bows from the 1940's well into the 1970's and 80's.

This cello bow is stamped "Francois Lotte" and weighs 82.6 grams. It has a round stick of pernambuco, measuring 71.5cm, and with a silver lapping and leather grip. It has an ebony frog with a Parisian eye and solid silver button, and is in good condition.

The stick is quite strong and flexible giving it very apparent qualities of power and fullness, and yet noticeably doesn't lack any stability or control that sticks like this sometimes lose. It sits most comfortably in legato passages, where this kind of power and stability can draw out every ounce of sound from an instrument, and off-the-string strokes like spiccato take little effort to maintain once started. It would be best suited to cellists of a professional level, especially in chamber and solo contexts.
