JTL Sarasate Artiste Violin France early 20th C.
This violin was made by the Jerome Thibouville-Lamy firm in the early 20th Century at their workshop in Mirecourt.
The violin is labelled "Sarasate Artiste d'apres / Nicolaus Amatus Cremonen Hieronymi / Fil. ac Antonij Nepos Fecit 1659", bears the Jerome Thibouville-Lamy trademark, and is based on an Amati model. The body measures 361mm along the back, 170mm across the upper bouts and 206mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of well-flamed maple with a narrow curl, and the ribs and scroll have been selected well to match. The top is a finely grained spruce. The violin is finished with rosewood pegs and an ebony fingerboard. It is in good condition.
It is a very balanced violin, with an even sound wrapped around a lot of energy. With a comfortable string height and a powerful lower end, the violin possesses quite a warm character overall. It would be very well suited to a player finishing their secondary education or starting their University study.
