Rudolph Fiedler Cello Czechia
This cello was made by Rudolph Fiedler in 1996 in the Czech Republic.
This cello is labelled "Rudolph Fiedler / Unhost - Bohemia/ 1996". The back is made with two pieces of maple, and is lightly flamed with a curl that is narrow at the top of the cello and becomes progressively broader towards the bottom of the cello. The ribs and scroll have been made to match. The top is of a moderately grained spruce with a red-brown varnish, ebony fittings, and a french bridge. The body measures 748mm along the back, 357mm across the upper bouts and 446mm across the lower bouts. It is in good condition.
This instrument is full of dark and rich tone colours, giving it an alluring sound quality. Each note is beautifully rounded and full of complexity, and this tone is projected well throughout both the upper and lower registers of the instrument. It responds easily to bowing and dynamic changes, and would be suitable for players at a tertiary level or higher.
